I have known and worked with Ian Anderson for over 20 years, both in his role as an analytical chemist at BAT and in his current position as founder of Consult-igma Ltd.
I have used the services of Consult-igma Ltd for four very different projects.
In each project Ian has shown creativity, a very quick grasp of the essence of the problems and goals, and a rapid and thorough response. I have been exceedingly happy with the results and it is a pleasure to work with Ian, who communicates well and gives essential feedback as to the progress of his work. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the services of Consult-igma Ltd again.

What can you expect from Ian Anderson at Consult-igma?
Creativity! One of the most important problem solving skills!
Innovative and new approaches to tackle problems.
Approaches not limited to the ways 'like it was always done before'
A leading edge knowledge of analytical chemistry
Transformation of results into new business ideas and opportunities
Solid background research in the scientific literature and also through an extensive network of colleagues - 'state of the art' research.
Project management with enthusiasm and motivation
'Not just doing things right, but doing the right things!' is the major difference between a successful and not so successful business.
Doing the right things, requires a very broad background knowledge, creativity in problem formulation, creativity in providing solutions, and a sound and solid knowledge of the tools necessary – together with a lot of enthusiasm to guide a project forward and to overcome all hurdles and obstacles.
I have known Ian Anderson for many years. We first met at a scientific conference in Richmond USA. Ian made a conference presentation about “Amadori” compounds - important flavour precursors in food processing.
Sitting together with Ian, that evening discussing his work and his ideas, led to one of the major project at Wattenspapier.

I have known Ian Anderson since 1991. We have worked together on a number of Analytical and Industrial development projects, where Ian has been instrumental in building valuable scientific links between British American Tobacco and relevant industrial and academic partners.
Ian's unique problem solving and analytical skills have led to patentable industrial tools, and the introduction of new scientific techniques into what is a fairly mature industry.
Ian is highly respected by myself and my scientific colleagues for his integrity, his passion for the science, and his ability to network at various levels in order to assimilate the information necessary for the business. He maintains his contacts actively and is tireless in exploring areas at the cutting edge of analytical science. I wish Ian the very best in his exciting new enterprise.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Ian Anderson for the relatively short period of only four years. We commenced a collaborative project aimed at the detection and identification of free radicals in mainstream tobacco smoke using the advanced spectroscopic technique of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance. This is not a main stream analytical technique, and yet Ian immediately recognised its potential benefits to solve the problems in hand. Despite the numerous technical obstacles involved, Ian brought a wealth of experience and analytical skills to this project which undoubtedly ensured its ongoing success. This demonstrated his ability and willingness to seek out new techniques, regardless of their complexity, in order to deliver on the stated objectives of a project.
I found Ian to be highly focused, enthusiastic and fully committed to scientific problem solving. He is meticulous in researching the relevant technical and scientific basis to a project, which brings a broader perspective and unique direction to the research. As a confident and articulate analytical chemist, with over 25 years experience, he can express ideas and designs to the non-expert which enhance the level and success of the scientific collaboration.
I am pleased to write this testimonial, in order to endorse and support Ian in his new venture in Consult-igma Limited.

It is a pleasure to write a testimonial for Ian Anderson.
I have known and worked with Ian for about 25 years at the Research and Development Centre of British American Tobacco in Southampton. He is a very talented analytical chemist and has worked on many aspects of the subject during his time at BAT, including working on organic, inorganic, radioactive and biological systems. He has used and developed many analytical procedures and was particularly involved in the innovative development and application of HPLC and robotic techniques. Typically, Ian was involved in the development and application of the various techniques and the writing of authoritative reports on their use and the results. Ian presented some of this work at scientific conferences. He was also very effective at teaching other staff how to use the techniques and apply them to different projects.
In recent years he was very much involved in giving advice to a wide range of R&D staff on the suitability of various analytical techniques to their projects. As part of this he became involved in BAT departments other than R&D. He was also a key contact with external analytical research being undertaken at universities and research organisations, and coordinated several projects that were sponsored by BAT.
Ian has also been the R&D safety manager, radiological protection officer and Royal Society of Chemistry representative at various times. He was able to combine these activities with his analytical work and provided enthusiastic and authoritative leadership to these duties.
Ian has organised many external lectures and seminars within BAT, using his wide range of expertise and contacts to arrange topical, interesting and useful sessions. He is also a good mentor to more junior staff and has been able to guide their work and advise on their problems in a very considerate manner.
Ian has been the treasurer of the Mid-Southern Counties Section of the Royal Society of Chemistry for a number of years. He has done this in a highly competent manner. He was also able to occasionally organise meetings and speakers for the Royal Society of Chemistry using facilities at British American Tobacco.
In summary, Ian approaches all of his activities in a highly competent manner and brings a wide range of experience and contacts to solving problems, often in an innovative manner.

We have been working with Ian Anderson on some supercritical CO2-extraction projects. Mr. Anderson carefully prepared the design of the studies and due to his deep understanding and practical approach it was a pleasure to discuss with him the best strategy how to systematically vary the different parameters in order to get the right evidence how to optimise the process scientifically and economically. Mr. Anderson was contributing valuable remarks and worked up the results in form of informative charts.

Ian Anderson of Consult-igma, joined the Chromatographic Society's executive committee and was soon to be offered the substantial challenge of organising an international conference in informatics and data visualisation. As the current president of the Chromatographic Society I was privileged to work alongside Ian to shape the scientific and technical content of the conference and to help in persuading speakers, sponsors and delegates to support and attend the two day meeting.
This was the first meeting of its kind in the UK on this subject and as such there was a significant risk that in breaking new ground we would be unsure of support. In fact due to the hard work of Ian and a considerable number of phone calls and wide ranging contacts we managed to run what was described by one experienced delegate as "the best symposium he had ever attended...".
Ian sourced the innovative INTECH Centre as the impressive venue for the event and managed the logistics, entertainment, advertising via his website and programme compilation before and during the event itself. We worked very closely on the conference over a period of a year from its inception to realisation and I found Ian to be a professional, hard working, imaginative and resourceful partner. There were times when with few sponsors and no delegates we could have retired, but fortunately we did not and achieved an attendance of nearly 90 scientists and technologists to create something very special in this emerging field. Some noteworthy international sponsoring companies told me that they found Ian to be most helpful in constructing and arranging stands and facilities for their presentations at the conference.
I would have no hesitation in working with Ian again and will be relying on his support to reshape the Chromatographic Society to prosper in an environment that is ever challenging and demanding innovative solutions.

Presenting the work of the HUPO Proteomics Standards initiative at the recent Chromatographic Society conference was made straightforward by Consult-igma, who at short notice provided me with all that I needed to have an extremely productive day interacting with both conference attendees and other "stand staffers".
The conference attracted a good cross-section of both privately and publicly funded scientists, and the industry stands were staffed by high-calibre individuals. The venue was was both interesting and accessible, and all the "little things" seemed to be well in hand.
Overall an interesting and productive experience, thanks

I would like to thank both Consult-igma and the Chromatographic Society for organising this conference. I found it both an enjoyable and informative experience.
The 20 minute lecture slots resulted in talks giving only the pertinent information in a way that even a non-statistician can follow.
The venue was superb. It facilitated the mixing of both the delegates and the sponsors in a relaxed and informal manner, compared to many places where you feel intimidated to talk to the companies in case you get a high pressure sales pitch.

Thank you for all the hard work done for organising the Cheminformatics meeting in Winchester. Everybody felt welcome and the location was also a bonus. I believe it was a good idea to get together people from different departments in industry and I certainly had the occasion to catch up with the software news in industry and academia.
